Goes to show how the new rules has affected how aplayer plays these days. if you look carefully, Souray was beaten and his instincts could not clutch or impede Spezza like in the past.

With exception to the OT goal, Souray and Theo were our best players tonight. I also liked the Bonk line. As a team we are playing well......Zednik struggled tonight but he'll get his timing down and will fly like the rest of our young , FAST team. A very entertaining game....

In total defence of Sheldon Souray he had an awesome game. Just awesome. As for the goal in OT, he was simply a victim of the new rules. had he grabbed or tried to hist Spezza, or impede his progress in any way (which I am sure is what he wanted to do), chances are he would have gotten a penalty for holding, interference, breathing on Spezza, standing within 2 feet of him (maybe we should have a "no yards" call like the CFL?), looking at him, or whatever the new rules would dream up. Then he would end up with 2 minutes, Ottawa scores and we all bitch at Sheldon for taking a penalty. I feel so bad for him and dmen in that league now. They ar ejust lost out there. He tried to play the puck because, given the new rules..that was all he could do.

i still believe you are allowed to hit the guy , the other night after the philly game tsn showed another game and a similar play happened and the dman stuck out his arm(straightarmed)the attacker and knocked him on his ass no penalty , if the player has the puck you are still allowed to hit him .

I agree you are allowed to hit him. But when you are in Souray's position and you need to make a quick decision it is tough...it has been inconsistent to say the least and I am sure he was not sure, in that split second..what to do. Very easy for us to say in an armchair.
