WOW IS RIGHT!!!  That move brought out of my jammies!  The Sens have to be the best stickwork team I have ever seen.  Their passing, intercepting and handling is magical and that is why they are my pick for the Cup.  What makes me really happy, is Montreal is in that mold and we will be there in a few short years!  I am happy we got a point out of it!

Habtastic- I agree. I said it before..Ottawa is the class in that league..bar none, not even close. They have the whole package..a ton of speed, scoring, goaltending and strong, big and mobile dmen. Instead of pointing the finger at Souray or Rivet on the goal I have to tip my hat boys..Spezza's move was as good as I have ever seen a forward make. With the new rules you cannot tie the guy up. Souray did not want a penalty..what was he supposed to do? Give credit where credit is due. Ottawa has an awesome, awesome team. In fact, because of our speed, come the end of the year we may be the ONLY team that can stay with them.

i agree it was a beauty but you say what was sourey supposed to do , how about hitting the man , or tripping him or getting a piece of him , when your the last man back you cant let the other guy pass you , he made a half assed effort and got burned , other than that he played a decent game , theo didnt expect to see speeza get around sourey thats why he was unprepared to face the shot . dont get me wrong it was a beauty move but sourey got to try harder than that .

I have to say I agree; Souray should have done whatever it would have taken to stop Spezza at all costs. If it were to mean getting a penalty, so what? Look at what happened by not taking a penalty. If the penalty cost us a goal, oh well, we'd be in the same boat as we were without the penalty. But I'm not blaming Souray. An all around incredible play by Jason Spezza!

i disagree.  spezza went wide-in on a heel drag.  souray has two options - play the man or the puck and with spezza's wingspan, the speed, and the angle he was at, he was stuck in the middle.  i dont think it was a half-assed effort, it was merely being caught flat foot by an amazing move.

and theodore should expect it... no matter what.  it's his job, and he's being paid very well to have his presave positioning ready.

If you will read one of my other posts you will know that I totally disagree with you guys on this one. No way in the world is Souray to blame. Mcneil said it best. Instead of playing the puck he would have ha dto grab him or trip him. Before we started playing "touch football" Sheldon would have laid the body on Spezza. But geesh the poor players are so tentative and scared out there. Spezza's goal was exactly what the NHL envisioned whne they created these new rules!! Pretty, dipsy doodle goals reminiscent of what I see in my Sunday morning beer league no contact league. You HAVE TO PLAY THE PUCK in that situation. Let's us tip our hat to Spezza instead of pooping all over Souray shall we?  The combo of the new rules and Spezza's great hands scored that goal. Ottawa has the 6th ranked power play in the league. If Souray hauls him down I put my money on Ottawa scoring and we all bitch at Souray for taking him down.

As for Theo not being ready because he was not expecting Spezza to get by..it is overtime. If Theo is not ready he needs to have a seat.

Hey Folks:

Let's give Sheldon a break here! The guy plays his usual strong game on D, but gets beat once, on a beautiful move.

You're forgetting to give credit to Spezza. He's not exactly a plumber you know! This is a guy with all the gifts to become a real superstar, and he just simply showed it on that move. Before he's through, Spezza's going to make a lot of defencemen look bad, so give Sheldon a break will ya? He, and the rest of the team, played a pretty good game against the team many feel is the cream of the the NHL this season. Bring on the Rangers!!!

i don't know if you guys watched the replay's or what because what i seen was a little different.  it clearly shows souray trying to hit spezza, he leans in on him and spezza made a spectacular move to dance right around him.  maybe he should have tackled him or grabbed him but he obviously thought he could get the body on him and he almost did.  give credit to spezza because that was one we will be seeing for awhile.  i kinda thought theo might have been able to stop it, spezza made a nice move but theo didn't even lift his glove. he was probly in awe at souray picking up his jock strap.  what was with the 2 backcheckers coating behind the play.  the goal could have been prevented if they would have give souray and theo some support.

both theo and souray played a good game though.  as did most of the team except zednick.  that is understandable though as it will take soem time to get it going after missing 8 games.

With a little better timing Souray could have planted him. With that move watch how long Spezza had his head down?

that goal was ordained by the hockey gods

it was the prettiest I've seen in a long time

now how can we lure spezza over?

Maybe they'll need an elite goalie in a couple of years....

I saw Ray Emery all through his junior career, and believe me, Ottawa isn't going to need goaltending for a long time.

He's big, smart, mobile and quick. He even has a bit of a mean streak in him, for those players who want to plant themselves in front of the net.

The Senators are fine in goal for the next few years.
