I had no idea that this kid suffers from severe chronic back pain!
In fact, Joe has apparently considered retirement (imagine that at his age) as a last resort solution.
As much as we all hate "Da Broons", it is a shame. These things are apparently not very treatable...and...well....chronic - yikes!
(And-o KNOWS back-pain...not only because he is a pain in the ass...but because he was a youngster requiring some major league corrective spinal surgery....and I tell ya, tying ones shoes in the morning is a priviledge when the back is bad!!! Can't imagine that pain ALL OF THE TIME...makes you wonder how long he will last!)
I feel bad too. I remember the year Pierre Mondou was injured and had to retire. I would be remiss if I did not say that I would not mind seeing him have to retire, it would be a big pain in the A** gone.
Thornton doesn't just have back pain, he has cartillage damage, which is why he was so innefective in the play-offs. Being someone who has suffered with cartillage damage in the ribs/back for many years makes me very empathic with him. I had to give up doing certian activities because sometimes even being hugged the wrong way hurt... I couldn't imagine getting checked regularly by 200+ lbs. guys and having the cartillage constantly re-torn, followed by back spasms while it semi-heals. Quality of life has to come into the equation.
