I predict Ribero will score tonight. Its a trivial game against a non rival andcontending team( Like boston, Ottawa, Philly, etc). That would fit his style of " points when they hardly mean anything". Not saying 2 points against Atlanta would not be great, just when it comes to crunch time who ya gonna call? It ain't Ribero. The sooner the Montreal people admit he is not the next flying francophone...the better. It may be a while for the next great french canadian to put on a Montreal sweater. But be patient and don't try to create a star out of garbage people. I mean come on!
I respect your opinion regarding Ribs...lord knows I can't get the image of his fake flopping all over the ice during the last playoffs...but just you remember that it was Ribs that delivered the death blow to the Leafs last Saturday...and it was Ribs that got things rolling versus the B's in game #1 as well!
Plus, he doesn't have the luxury of riding with the likes of Kovy and Zednik/Perezhogin on a nightly basis.
Honestly...time is proving that Koivu and Ribs are not an effective 1-2 punch....and thank goodness that Gainey picked-up Bonk (who will soon be amongst the top 6 on a nightly basis)...all the while Pleks/Chipper/Higgins/Bulis develop...and Bob patiently waits!
...Ribs might win us back...but we have the depth where it just matters less each day!
Death blow? Clay Aitken(You know the American idol Barry Manalow guy) could have scored that goal. And again it was against Toronto--Whom I will predict will finish bottom 5-6 in the league this year. Its fine to rack up points against weak teams, but you gotta do it against the big boys( I.E Koivu last night against the Sens).
Also what is wrong with Ryder as a line mate? He was the runner up for rookie of the year for god sakes! And Higgins is a first round draft pick that scored 29 goals in a very competitive AHL last year. Come on, those are quality guys to be working with.
It has nothing to do with our 1-2 punch at center. It has everything to do with our "supposed" second line center threat. Other teams don't even care what lines they throw out against him. He is generally no threat so teams can feel comfortable putting lines 1 through 3 up against him. NOT GOOD. Alot of teams have 2 centers that play a small man's game and do very well...its not the size of the player, its how skilled and feisty they compete. Koivu competes hard and throws the body into people effectively( He wacked a Senator in the first period with a brilliant body check). Ribero on the other hand brings nothing to the table but " fancy" "worked in junior" type moves and the occassional point( likely around 60 points). Not enough if you do nothing else.
I am sure it's just a difference of opinion, but I just know I am right...
